The big advantage to them is that they can be unique to you, reflecting your brand and presenting content to your visitors that Facebook can't provide by itself.

The disadvantage is that its a highly technical process and requires things like SSL certificates. If you would be interested in a 'paid for' solution (e.g. me building it for you) or you just want to know more, let me know :) Clearly Crafty Community

via Dusk Web Design http://on.fb.me/WBN2GL

Adding custom tabs http://on.fb.me/16SFTGs

Adding custom tabs http://on.fb.me/16SFTGs

This is a concept for a wedding website. Getting a website is not like buying a retail item with a fixed cost. If a web designer offers you a fixed cost (e.g. All our websites cost £100) eye them with suspicion.

This is not the same as giving you a quote. A quote is a cost unique to your needs, usually based on an hourly or daily rate. There's nothing wrong with you asking for a web designers daily rate.

I'm also aware there are a ton of 'buy a website' from companies like Wix, 1&1, Moonfruit etc. These are tempting because, on the face of it, you're getting a cheap website that you only have to pay for monthly and that will allow you to easily keep it updated. You sometimes also get a domain 'for free'.

However, these types of deals usually mean you do NOT own the domain, you probably do NOT have any rights over *YOUR* content and, should you ever want to change who you host with, transferring could be an expensive pain the bum.

These kind of websites seem cheap. A monthly cost of, for example, £10 is very cheap, right? But the costs add up. Thats £120 over a year. £240 over two etc etc. I'm assuming you want to have your website for a very long time as its your source of income. £240 is enough for you to get a small site with a shop built in. Its a one-off payment and then its yours. No more costs from your web designer.

Paying for a website is liking getting a trades person. They'll listen to your needs, not impose a universal 'solution', give you a quote and if you accept it, they'll do the specified work.

via Dusk Web Design http://on.fb.me/WBN2GL

Control Social Media Networks From One Place — Career Pathing

Control Social Media Networks From One Place — Career Pathing:
Just completed another tutorial on a simple and free way to manage your Social Networks from one convenient location: http://bit.ly/ZLiise

J.B.
